It took a lot more than courage and determination to make this remarkable journey: it took two years of planning and as her son, Daniel was at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Jan had to take on the tasks of:
  • Raising £70,000 to fund the adventure
  • Learning Navigation, Seamanship and acquire her VHF Operator certificate
  • Studying First Aid (how to stitch each other up in a Force 9 Gale!)
  • Organising the building of the boat, source food supplies, equipment etc.
  • Training to a high level of fitness
  • Oh, and learning how to row!
