The Bear Hotel Woodstock
Woodstock is home to one of England’s oldest hotels and one of its prettiest. Built as a coaching inn in the 13th Century, The Bear has played host to royalty, film stars and politicians. The Bear is a favourite haunt for romantic couples, especially since it became a hideaway for Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor at the height of their love affair. With its ivy façade, oak beams, open fireplaces and stone walls, it exudes warmth and cosiness, perfect if you want to escape from it all and treat yourself to some good old fashioned hospitality.
Classic English design is an essential aspect of The Bear and in the hotel’s 54 bedrooms. You’ll find that rare combination of comfort and 21st Century convenience. With eight four-poster rooms, seven suites and many feature rooms, there’s plenty of opportunity to relax in style. All rooms have been recently refurbishment and have CD Players and satellite television.
Enjoy modern British cuisine in our Award Winning Restaurant or take an informal lunch or Traditional Afternoon Tea in our cosy bar (log fire in winter). The hotel also has private rooms for up to 30 people, ideal for reunions or special occasions.
Whether you are planning an intimate family affair or a grand society occasion, you have found the perfect venue for a day that’s special down to the last detail. We take pride in tailoring a special package to meet your personal requirements. The Bear Hotel does not currently hold a licence for civil wedding ceremonies. However, Woodstock Town Hall, just across the road, does have one.
